The Astillas Santa Rosa Project is located within the ductile and brittle NS trending Astillas Shear Zone, hosted in a volcaniclastic sequence assigned to La Negra Formation. The sequence is intruded by diverse tabular bodies of dioritic to gabbro-dioritic composition. The peripheral and distal zones are characterised by oxide copper mineralisation identified through chip sampling at grades between 10.7% and 1.69% and coarse disseminated gold which has grades between 1.18g/t and 0.27g/t. The internal zones also hosts copper, gold and zinc as well as other sulphide associates such as magnetite and quartz. Induced Polarization geophysical surveys indicate three anomalous zones of known mineralisation within the project area. These areas were further examined using trenching methods, identifying four mineralised zones which include a section 80m by 20m wide assaying 1.91% copper and 0.63g/t gold. Drilling ensued in autumn 2004, revealing all eight holes intercepted IOCG type mineralisation. As Astillas has been identified as a substantial IOCG target a subsequent 2,000m Reverse Circulation drilling programme is planned for 2005, to confirm the deposit as a potential major project for LAT along with areas of prospective economic mineralisation already identified.
